What is Content Dripping? Content Dripping means scheduling the delivery of your (web) content. Why might this be a good idea for you? I have the top 3 reasons many of my clients request the use of drip feeds.
1- Dripping keeps your audience coming back for more. Much like feeding a stray cat, if you send out nibblets of your content on a schedule, you can keep people engaged and coming back for more. Obviously this is going to boost your seo ranking, and build your audience, quite beneficial indeed!
2- Dripping e-learning content is crucial. Most e-learning sites want to deliver their course content over a long period of time, it can be painstaking to go in every day or even every week and add new course content. Instead, take a day or two and create your entire course content, then set it to be delivered to your students on a schedule with a drip feed. Less stress for you, and dependable content for your students = win win!
3- Memberships sites will benefit immensely. Think about this one, if you want people to pay for a membership to your site, and you just throw all your content at them the moment they sign up, why will they pay for the same membership next month? Drip feeding content to your members is crucial. You can drip feed your content so that all members, no matter when they joined, get content ‘a’, ‘b’ and ‘c’ on month 1, then content ‘d’, ‘e’ and ‘f’ on month 2. Members are much more likely to keep paying for their membership if you are consistently delivering them new content.
There are times when content dripping is not the best idea. For example, lets say you have 12 weeks of content you want to drip on a weekly basis. It might sound like a great idea to set up a membership site and charge $10 per month for 12 weeks of dripped content. But if that is all you have, what you really have is an e-book, and you would be better off selling a $30 e-book. You will have people that cancel after 1 month, and I can guarantee that after 3 months, everyone will cancel. In this case it is more profitable to sell all 12 weeks of content as an e-book. Unless you are willing to commit to adding fresh content consistently, and indefinitely, your membership site will not succeed.
Having said that, I think a membership site with dripped content is a great idea!! Just commit to adding your drip fed content every 6 months, or even every year, and you will have a booming membership site in no time! And you can always sell e-books along with the memberships if you want, and even offer discounts on your e-books to members… Now we are talking!!
